A homeless woman who was raped nearly a year ago in Ohio says she sometimes begged for bus money or walked up to 8 miles so she could face her attacker in court.
A police officer in Columbus says without her determination, it’s unlikely her attacker would have been convicted.
A judge last week sentenced 54-year-old Paul Hubert to three years in prison after he pleaded guilty to rape.
Hubert’s attorney blamed what happened on drugs and alcohol.
The woman tells The Columbus Dispatch that she made sure to be at the hearings so no one else would become a victim.
Prosecutors say the woman was sleeping under a bridge in Columbus when she was raped last March.
The Associated Press generally does not name victims of sexual assault.
